Navigation of a Princess

My 3 and half year old daughter asked me what I was doing this morning. I told her I was going downstairs to meditate. She asked if she could meditate with me. After briefly wondering how much she would affect me, I remember Eric Pepin saying the Universe is like a loving parent and tries to give you what you ask for. And I agreed to let my daughter meditate with me.

We went into the basement and started with a few minutes of the tone meditation. I told her to focus on a spot on the wall and listen for the tone in her ears. A minute or two later, she asked me “what’s that sound” and “it sounds far away”. Maybe she heard the washing machine upstairs start a new cycle. Maybe she heard “the tone”.

Then I was ready for the foundation meditation. I had planned on just putting on my earphones and meditating, but I realized this wouldn’t work. So I went and found my portable stereo. It wouldn’t power up. I remembered my mp3 player has two jacks, so I got a second set of headphones and sat down next to my daughter.

First I adjusted the cables, volume, etc, so we were ready to go. I picked an eclectic techno mix because I knew it would be new and different for her. Then I showed her how to cup her hands in her lap and told her we were going to close our eyes. We put on our headphones and started.

My intention during the meditation was to teach her and help her focus on how it works. And to use my energy to guide her to a relaxed, blissful state of mind. So as I focused on my own chakras, I also broadcast the feeling of focusing on each chakra into the room from my chest center.

My daughter got very calm and very still. I could feel the effect my broadcast was having on her. But I also recognized that having the intention of being a guide put me into this awesome place. I wanted to fly, but I knew I could not. It would be too intense for her.

I recognized it was taking all my skill to give my daughter a experience she could enjoy without being overwhelmed. I opened my eyes 2 or 3 times to check on her. Each time she was sitting next to me with her eyes closed and her hands folded properly on her lap. One or two times I went a little far, and I could feel my daughter start to fidget. I backed off, brought us down a little and she settled down.

I just switched to my mind chakra, at about the 20 minute point and realized that it was time to finish. 20 minutes is a long time for a 3 year old, so I skipped the mind chakra and started to bring us back down for an easy landing.

A very cool new experience for both me and my daughter.
